ROLE
Historically, the members of People Of Substance, Inc. has played a major role in the success of this non-profit organization by
dedicating their time, energy and resources. Through their assistance, People Of Substance, Inc. has accomplished far more
then it could without their tireless efforts. Our committees meet at least once a month and are made up of people who volunteer
their time and services to assist in accomplishing the valuable work of the organization. The following areas provide additional
information into the function and activities of our projects, issues, or event oriented committees.


Health Issues Committee

The mission of this committee is to improve lives through education and services in family health.  To implement prevention and
intervention programs that will help decrease health risks.  To increase understanding and knowledge of mental and physical
issues such as substance abuse, alcohol dependency, and depression.

Since POS is a dynamic organization working to address comprehensive health issues and their consequences in community
settings our vision is to develop strategies to respond to the HIV/AIDS pandemic; other sexually transmitted infections;
unintended pregnancies; and related reproductive health concerns of individuals and communities.

POS also wants to work in partnership with vulnerable populations of diverse cultures, applying flexible public health approaches
and building local capacity to address the most pressing health needs of individuals and communities.


Decoration/Hospitality Committee
The Decoration/Hospitality Committee oversees that all decided decorations are provided and in place at the designated time at
all of the organization's functions.  This committee displays material for the organization that is appropriate for the purpose/of the
exhibit.


Education Committee
The Education Committee oversees all activities agreed upon by the organization that are related to education. These activities
include the Adopt-A-School Program, Community Education Outreach Activities, Tutor/Mentoring Program, and POS
Scholarship Fund.


Finance Committee
The Finance Committee oversees any and all financial matters of the organization and makes recommendations to the executive
committee regarding the annual budget and any and all financial matters.


Fundraising Committee
The Fundraising Committee recommends and makes suggestions for fundraising activities to the executive committee at least
four months prior to the suggested date and oversees all agreed fundraisers from start to completion.  The committee members
meet with the Finance Committee to discuss planned fundraisers at least three months prior to the function.  


Membership Committee
The Membership Committee oversees the recruitment of new members.  This committee makes recommendations to the
Executive Committee concerning the admission of new members.


Benevolence Committee
The Benevolence Committee shall handle all benevolence of the membership and/or their immediate parent (s), significant other
or sibling (s) as well as addressing members birthdays and anniversaries.


Public Relations Committee
The Public Relations Committee disseminates the news of People Of Substance through the ever-increasing media market. It
produces quality, professionally managed publicity campaigns in order to increase participation at POS sponsored events, to
boost website hits and to generate donations. This committee also reviews communication needs for improvement or
enhancement.


Website Committee
The Website Committee provides information, fosters ideals and ensures that the web pages for People Of Substance provide
accurate, and appropriate two-way communications for the purpose of sharing information about the organization and linking
People Of Substance to external sources.
