POS' founder, Darrell K. Sims, pondered the thought of organizing another diverse organization for professionally oriented people in the
City of New Orleans. He foresaw an organization that would provide support for its members, as well as an opportunity to provide needed
services to the community. He also envisioned an organization that would provide an annual Mardi Gras ball as one of the activities that
would enable the members and their family and friends to share fellowship. After discussions with several friends and colleagues, he
developed a list of possible members and began contacting them.On June 4, 2000, the organization named People Of Substance (POS)
became a reality. The organization's motto is "Moving towards a POSitive future and making a difference with substance" and their theme
song is "Ain't No Stopping Us Now, We Are on the Move". POS adopted the colors of platinum, royal blue and white as the organization's
colors. POS is a diverse group of positive people who work together to provide helping hands in the New Orleans Metropolitan area with
pride and a positive twist.

When the great city of New Orleans was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina, so was POS. But, like most true New Orleanians, the members of
People of Substance were able to pick themselves up and join their neighbors to be part of the "Rebirth Process". Nine months after the
storm, the members of People of Substance were able conduct their first regular monthly meeting at Olivers Restaurant in the French
Quarter. A new outlook and philosophy emerged which enabled them to truly strive for unity and excellence..

support their favorite candidates running for political office. On Saturday, September 28, 2002, POS members supported their first
political candidate, Marie A. Bookman, who was running for Judge of Municipal Court. On this day POS members canvassed
neighborhoods to share Ms. Bookman's political platform. Then on Wednesday, October 2, 2002, POS sponsored a meet and greet

POS spent this day running errands and cleaning the homes of these fascinating ladies. Then after the work was done they broke bread
